Special Group at the Center
Anger is a primitive defensive reaction to feeling vulnerable or to being under attack.
Anger is an out of control reaction and can turn destructive. It can lead to problems at work, in personal relationships and all manner of physical problems.
Anger can put you at the mercy of powerful emotions and lead to unpredictable and shameful behavior.
Coping With Anger
Coping with Anger is the name for the Anger Management group offered at the Center. The 8-12 week anger management program is based on a cognitive behavioral model and confronts the clients thinking patterns, irrational beliefs and inappropriate behaviors in response to anger.
There are eight modules in the program. Clients are asked to read each module and complete the exercises before coming to group. Participants present completed exercises to peers in class for feedback and discussion. Conceivably clients can complete this program in 8 weeks unless for some reason they are not prepared or their work is not satisfactory. In those cases, the client is expected to complete his work the following week.
The focus is on the clients thinking and behavior as it relates to anger.
